DESERT ISLAND DISCS is a long running BBC Radio 4 programme. It was first broadcast on January 29th 1942 and is said by the Guinness Book of Records to be the longest running music programme in the history of radio.
Guests are asked to choose the eight pieces of music they would take with them to a desert island, discussion of their choices permitting a review of their life. They also choose one book (excluding the Bible and the works of Shakespeare which are already deemed present on the island) and one luxury item which must be inanimate and have no practical use. |

While not quite a Desert Island , Tenerife does lay claim to having many castaways from the UK . In this feature we put the Desert Island Discs theme to those who have made Los Gigantes their home , frequent returning visitors and also those people who have come to Los Gigantes for the first time .
In the Los Gigantes version of Desert Island Discs , Castaways choose their all time top ten favourite music recordings on CD , one choice from the world of literature , a magazine subscription - delivered by message in a bottle post - and one luxury item they could not envisage living without . |

Glamourous , talented , effervescent and yet down to earth best decribes our latest Castaway Sarah Randle . We recently caught up with Sarah after she returned to Los Gigantes for a well earned rest after being on tour with Chris Rea . Professional singer Sarah , 30 , currently based in Windsor , describes Chris Rea as " A fantastic guy , and also a perfectionist ." Modest to a fault , she is also a bit of a perfectionist herself and you can test that statement for accuracy by logging on to Chris Reas' web site , Jazzee Blue , http://www.chrisrea.com/artists_sarahrandle.html
and downloading the free mp3 taken from her album The Sparrow . If you like the mp3 , get the album through Amazon !

| What special significance does track No1 hold for you ? |
| Stevie Wonder has the ingenious ability to capture peoples' hearts through his music - here is a man who sees more of the world by believing and merely imagining what he perceives this world to be by representing what music is all about - life ! Perhaps if more of us like Stevie were blind , we might have a better perception of what really is in front of our eyes - album "Songs In The Key Of Life." |
| |
| Which work of literature would you take to your desert island ? |
A diary . Oh and a pencil . A diary contains lots of interesting information on the metric system , conversion tables and maps of the world . |
| |
| Which magazine subscription would you take out ? |
National Geographic . Boring I know , but , I would learn so much about the flora and fauna on our planet . I think it would help me understand a little bit more about my desert island , and perhaps even help me to survive it . |
| |
| What luxury item would be indispensable to you ? |
The biggest , latest Boom Boom Hi Fi system with an unending supply of CD's . My life is not worth living without music ! |
| |
| What first brought you to Los Gigantes ? What special appeal does it hold for you ? |
About 15 years ago , my parents stumbled across Los Gigantes (literally - they had had too much to drink .Again!) And anyone is a fool if they don't think those cliffs are not breathtaking . We started by staying at the Los Gigantes Hotel and eventually bought two lovely apartments which we escape to as much as possible . Sadly we lost Grandpa 2 years ago , but , Granny , at the ripe old age of 91 , still enjoys coming out here to eat fresh fish dinners and have a glass of Creme de Menthe before bedtime . Los Gigantes holds many happy memories of the family coming out here for anniversaries , birthdays , wedding proposals and general good times .
